I find it a much more difficult game than anything in the HL2 series. HL1 is good in the way it deals with things. I won't go into the whole, "It was groundbreaking for its era" because that doesn't really matter to you. Just know that many games came from that system.
Ep 1 - meh. Was good. Like the ok parts of HL2. Still worth the play . Ep 2 - Best out the 3 in my opinion, really enjoyable. Equally as god, if not better than HL2.

Obviously the graphics won't impress, but that is besides the point. In my opinion, Half-Life (1) is one of the best video games EVER released, even being about 18 years old. I believe that it is even better than Half-Life 2 (Not to say this game isn't great also), as I have played through the entire story about 10 times without getting bored.
