EOMFD • 8 yr. ago. Dude, I was in the same boat. Look up the weights, the 500 EXC is 260lbs, and the 690 is 300lbs. I'm sure you can handle the extra 40lbs. The deciding factor for me was the oil change intervals with 500 miles the EXC and 2,000 miles for the 690 R. So I got a 690 and I haven't looked back. No regrets whatsoever.

The 650 Suzuki wasn't getting any use. My quality perception had been recalibrated, and I knew I wanted to replace it with either a 690 Enduro or a 500 EXC. I would have bought the 500 were it not for the seat height. The 690 is too tall for my 30" inseam, but the 500 EXC is about 3" taller; utterly ridiculous for my reach, both on and off road.
